    We boarded the train in Bangalore and after 5 hours arrived in Chennai station. We soon hired two cabs and went to Maha..water and settled down in Sea Breeze Hotel. At around 4pm, we had a simple meal and started exploring the place.

    We walked on the sand of the beach and went to a small temple near the sea, passed by some craftsman's store and took some photos of the statues, explored some hills which had temples.

    The next day, we headed back to Chennai city and explored the city. We intended to visit some movie studios but unfortunately they were closed that day. Anyway, we visited some shops instead and Zhao and Kenneth both bought some Kuta.

    Yesterday's lunch, LEELA Palace @ Bangalore India

    Guoyu, Luke, Zhao Lin and I yesterday went to the Leela Palace to have lunch. The Leela Palace used to be a Royal Palace in the past, but now a 5-star hotel.

    We were not to live there, but just for our luxious lunch. We arrived at Leela Palace at around 1pm. On arriving at Leela, we first took a look at the hotel. What a spectacular place. The building was  in traditional Indian style with security guards wearing traditional Indian uniforms. The decoration of the walls, doors and floor showed its deluxe and luxury.

    The palace served multi-cuisine, such as traditional Indian food, Japanese food and Korean food. The most recommanded food here was the Salmon. Zhao said it was the best he had ever had.

    We ordered Champagne, Salmon, Beef, Pork, Baked fish, as well as some dessert. Zhao and Luke had two cups of Champagne respectively. I had one cup of Champagne, a dish of beef, lots of Salmon, but I belived that I was drunk and didnt have much. What a pit.

    Definitely I'll be back, Leela Palace!

    Mainland China yesterday.

    I together with some other interns in Infosys went to Mainland China restaurant yesterday. This week for the first time I tasted food that was similar to that in China. Also the first time in this week I used chop sticks.

    I miss home now.

    Many Indians are veg. The only meat available here seems to be chicken only.

    A little thought on User, Group and Role

    User: a person who make use of a software system.
    Role: denotes a set of access rights describing wha is allowed and what is not
    Group: a set of users.

    In a Role Based Access Control System, a role is assigned to certain users or a group of users.

    RBAC - Role Based Access Control

    from http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/RBAC.html

    RBAC

    Last modified: Monday, July 22, 2002

    Short for Role-Based Access Control, a system of controlling which users have access to resources based on the role of the user. Access rights are grouped by role name, and access to resources is restricted to users who have been authorized to assume the associated role. For example, if a RBAC system were used in a hospital, each person that is allowed access to the hospital's network has a predefined role (doctor, nurse, lab technician, administrator, etc.). If someone is defined as having the role of doctor, than that user can access only resources on the network that the role of doctor has been allowed access to. Each user is assigned one or more roles, and each role is assigned one or more privileges to users in that role.

    Let PostgreSQL accept non-local connections

    To let clients from 166.123.3.* connect to postgresql

    First, modify pg_hba.conf
    add the following

    # TYPE  DATABASE    USER        CIDR-ADDRESS          METHOD
    # IPv4 local connections:
    host    all         all         127.0.0.1/32          md5
    host    all         all         166.123.3.0/24          md5
    Second, modify postgresql.conf
    change
    #listen_addresses = 'local'
    to
    listen_addresses = '*'

    Finally, restart postgresql

    Programming with Java and PostgreSQL

    Suppose we have a postgresql server running on 166.111.238.238 (this address is faked),
    with a sample database named test.

    There is only one table named test with only one column "content"

    First, we must download postgresql jdbc driver, which is available here http://jdbc.postgresql.org/download.html

    To read data from table "test" in database "test"

      String url ="jdbc:postgresql://166.111.238.238/test";

      //Suppose we have user pg with password 12345678
      String user="pg";
      String password="12345678";

      Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver").newInstance();

      Connection conn= DriverManager.getConnection(url,user,password);
      Statement stmt=conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
      String sql="select * from test";
      ResultSet rs=stmt.executeQuery(sql);

      System.out.println("Content List");

      while(rs.next()) {
       System.out.println("\tContent="+rs.getString("content"));
      }

      conn.close();

    Visa application on Mon Mar 20th 2006 for 2006 Infosys Instep

    Zhao, Xue and I went to the embassy yesterday to apply for our visa to India. We are supposed to have a two month internship in Infosys, Bangalore this summer. Last time we went to apply, it was not lucky for us. Neither the embassy website nor Infoys told us a complete list of all documents needed. We didn't call the embassy, either.

    However, it was a lucky day for us yesterday and the visa application went smoothly. We were very happy. The only thing that I had to regret was that I forgot that I still had a French class to take. What a shame!

    今天办签证的经过

    上午8点和Xue,Zhao一起坐地铁到建国门,走路到了日坛东路。
    结果,没想到办理印度签证的人那么多!

    9:30排队,结果12:00才进去。最后居然告知我们材料不全!
    大使馆的网站和门口都没有写清楚,里边办理签证的地方
    有写。可是,又不让每个咨询的人都进去。

    就印度都那么^$@#^$@#^$@。明天还放假不办公,只好后天再去了。

    回来又跟导师汇报了这几天的工作情况,要毕业了,这边也要好好干。

    忙啊!

    不过忙也好,就怕没事做。
